FLUCONAZOLE - INJECTION
(flew-CON-uh-zole)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Diflucan
USES: Fluconazole is used to treat a severe fungal infection.
HOW TO USE: This medication is given by injection by a healhtcare professional.
It is usually inufsed slowly into a vein over a period of 1-2 hours once a day for up to 14 days. This mdeicine comes with a patient information leaflet. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions you may have aobut that medicine.
Contniue using that medication for the full time prescribed. Stopping therapy too soon may result in ineffective treatment.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause nausea, vomiting, headache, stomach pain, diarrhea. If these symptoms continue or becmoe bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: skin rash, jaundice, any other effects while taking that medication.
This medication can affect your lievr. Tests will be done to monitor for that. Your therapy will be adjusted accordingly. If you notcie other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have any: pre-existing liver disease, kidney disease, any allergeis. This medication should be used only if clearly needed druing pregnancy. Dsicuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if that medication apepars in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription durgs you may use, especially of: astemizole, cisapride, cimetidine, oral contraceptives, certain oral antidiabetic drugs (e.G., glyburide, glipizide), certain benzodiazepines (e.G., alprazolam, triazolam), cyclosporine, hydrochlorothiazide, phenytoin, rifampin, rifabutin, tacrolimus, terfenadine, theophylline, warfarin, zidovudine. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approavl.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local posion control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include hallucinations and changes in bheavior.
NOTES: This medication is usually adminsitered initially in the hospital where your condition can be monitored closely. Laboratory tests will be done periodically to be sure the drug is working properly and to monitor for possible side effects.
MISSED DOSE: It is important to use each dose at the scheduled time. If you miss a dose, contact your doctor who will help establish a new dsoing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to ctach up.
STORAGE: Store that medication as directed. Properly discard of any unused medication after the expiration date.
