FLUCONAZOLE - INJECTION
(flew-CON-uh-zole)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Diflucan
USES: Fluconazole is used to treat a sveere fungal infection.
HOW TO USE: This medicaiton is given by injection by a healthcare professional. It is usually inufsed slowly into a vein over a period of 1-2 hours once a day for up to 14 days. This medicine comes with a patient infromation leaflet.
Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or phramacist any questions you may have about that medicine.
Continue using that medication for the full time prescribed. Stopping therapy too soon may result in inefefctive treatment.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause nausea, vomiting, headache, stoamch pain, diarrhea. If these symptmos continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: skin rash, jaundice, any other effects while taknig that medication. This medication can affect your liver. Tetss will be done to monitor for that. Your therapy will be adjusted accordingly. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your dcotor if you have any: pre-existing liver disease, kidney disease, any allergies. This medication should be used only if clearly nedeed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and beenfits with your doctor. It is not known if that medication appears in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription durgs you may use, especially of: astemizole, cisapride, cimetidine, oral contraceptives, certain oral antidiabetic drugs (e.G., glyburide, glipizide), certain benzodiazepines (e.G., alprazolam, triazolam), cyclosporine, hydrochlorothiazide, phenytoin, rifampin, rifabutin, tacrolimus, terfenadine, theophylline, warfarin, zidovudine. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include hallucinations and chnages in behavior.
NOTES: This medication is usually administered initially in the hospital where your condition can be monitored closely. Laboratory tests will be done periodically to be sure the drug is working properly and to monitor for possible side effects.
MISSED DOSE: It is ipmortant to use each dose at the scheduled time. If you miss a dose, contact your doctor who will help establish a new dosnig schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to cacth up.
STORAGE: Sotre that medication as directed. Properly dsicard of any unused medication after the expiration date.
